Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers are an increasingly popular treatment to help smooth out wrinkles and lines and increase volume in the face.

Hyaluronic Acid is a naturally occurring sugar that is found in our skin. Its main role is to attract water and provide hydration to the skin. However, as we age, the amount of Hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring sugar in our skin) diminishes. This contributes significantly to the loss of volume in our faces, as well as the development of wrinkles.

The dermal fillers we use at the Encorė Cosmetic Clinic are synthetically made to resemble the body’s natural Hyaluronic Acid (HA). Placing them in the skin helps replace the volume that has been lost – improving wrinkles and adding volume and youthfulness back into your face.

Injectable dermal fillers are a quick and effective treatment option. They can be used to add volume to your face (enhancing lips, cheeks, under the eyes, chins, along the jawline and forehead), improve wrinkles and increase the skin’s smoothness, elasticity and firmness.

At the Encorė Cosmetic Clinic, we have more than 10 years’ experience in using different types of Hyaluronic Acid-based fillers.

We prefer the Restylane™ range of  fillers as they are made by a longstanding, reputable company and we believe are the best Hyaluronic Acid fillers available. They are very competitively priced. A comprehensive review of the literature has shown that Hyaluronic Acid fillers are the safest type of fillers on the market, with a lower complication rate than other filler types.

The fillers the Encorė Cosmetic Clinic uses are prescription only and can only be administered by a qualified healthcare professional in New Zealand.

Our health professionals will discuss with you the various benefits of the different types of fillers.

What does treatment involve?

Treatment takes around 15-20 minutes. The filler is injected below the skin’s surface. A very fine needle, combined with the local anaesthetic in these products minimises discomfort during the treatment. Most patients are able to tolerate the treatment without other forms of anaesthetic.

What are the possible side effects of derma filler treatments?

After a treatment, patients may expect some degree of redness, swelling, pain or tenderness, itching and/or bruising. If this occurs, it is generally mild and only lasts one to three days. Inflammatory reactions may last up to two weeks in rare cases.

Other adverse effects from treatment are extremely rare but may include allergy, infection, granuloma formation, persistent discolouration at the injection site, and/or ulceration of the skin. Blindness has been reported but is extremely rare and results from injection of filler into a blood vessel connected to the eye. Of all available fillers, Hyaluronic Acid products are reported to have the lowest incidence of these side effects. Exposure to sunlight should be avoided for the first few days after treatment.

Treatment benefits are instant, do not affect facial expression and the results with the products usually last 6-12 months. Ongoing treatments are needed to maintain the best results.
