TriFractional Radiofrequency Skin Resurfacing – the Technical stuff

Shallow lines and wrinkles and can be tackled effectively with TriFractional Radiofrequency Resurfacing (or TRF), which is a non-surgical method of skin tightening.

At the Encorė Cosmetic Clinic we use Maximus® TriFractional Resurfacing – recommended for mild to moderate skin tightening, with no downtime.

For more significant skin tightening, see Laser Facial Rejuvenating to find out more.

Maximus® TriFractional Resurfacing

TriFractional Radiofrequency (TRF) is a less aggressive treatment than laser resurfacing. It is used for reducing fine lines and wrinkles without little or no disturbance to the top layer of the skin, and can be used to improve the appearance of stretch marks. Radiofrequency is a form of electrical energy oscillating in the frequency range of 300 kHz – 1MHz.

What are the advantages of Fractional Radiofrequency (RF)?

  • Fractional RF technology enables effective fractional skin resurfacing on all skin types.
  • The controlled energy delivered from the electrode pins creates micro wounds surrounded by healthy unaffected areas. The unaffected areas (“skip” areas) function as healing centres.
  • The treatment triggers the body’s natural healing response mechanism, inducing new collagen formation and creating healthy skin tissue.

How is treatment performed?

Treatment is performed using a topical anaesthetic gel. A sensation of warmth on the skin may be felt but treatment is almost always well tolerated.

  • Suggested number of treatments may vary between individuals and between treatment areas but a typical course of treatment involves two to three treatments, spaced about four weeks apart.
  • This treatment can be used on skin of all colourations.
  • A touch up treatment may be needed approximately every six months, according to individual need and response.

What happens after treatments?

  • Tiny scabs in the form of the pin electrodes will usually form within 24 hours to three days post treatment.
  • Some swelling, redness or discomfort is common.
  • Typically, there will be a slight swelling or slight erythema which may last for one to two days.
  • With the use of makeup most patients can return to work with one to two days.
